What is Pilates

Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement devised by Joseph Pilates to strengthen and balance your body. It uses mat and equipment based exercises.

Introducing Pilates...

The Pilates method was devised by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. Pilates helps you develop correct posture and breathing, core strength, flexibility, and joint mobility. Your body is trained to work as an orchestrated whole instead of isolating muscle groups and developing them individually. Pilates engages your mind to improve your kinaesthetic understanding (awareness of the position and movement of parts of your body).

The Benefits of Pilates

The benefits of Pilates are:

  • improved breathing and body awareness
  • balanced muscle development
  • increased coordination, strength, and mobility
  • improved posture and sense of wellbeing.

Pilates exercises

Pilates uses two types of exercises: mat and equipment exercises.

Mat exercises are done on the floor and balance and strengthen your muscles using your own body weight as resistance.

Equipment exercises use a variety of special equipment (such as the Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair) to help tone and strengthen your body.

Thank you so much for all the hard work and support you've given me this year. Your work on my injury has been really helpful and incredibly instrumental in my recovery. I also really appreciate how you've always been here for me to talk to."
